The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW), which traces its roots back to the year 1700, aims to enhance the dialog between science and society through its work and to support institutional cooperation between non-university research and universities in Berlin and Brandenburg. In this context, the eighth edition of the "Denkanstöße" series was published in December 2021 under the title "Gesundheitsregion Berlin-Brandenburg". The publications in the series are contributions by members of the BBAW on current research policy and scientific topics.
In addition to the authors Detlev Ganten, Max Löhning, Britta Rutert and Britta Siegmund, many other experts working at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, including Prof. Dr. Felix Balzer, were involved in the process of creating this publication.
In their publication, the authors discuss the opportunities for the Berlin-Brandenburg region to become a sustainable health region with national and international appeal, how they believe the entire supply chain should be re-organized to improve quality and efficiency, and how Berlin's future locations could be developed more systematically and in a more coordinated manner to better support the health industry as a whole.
