After completing his medical studies, Thomas Ocker began his specialist training as an anesthesiologist at the Stade Clinic in 2005, which he successfully completed at the Charité in Berlin in 2012. 

In parallel, Thomas Ocker obtained his doctorate at the Department of Cardiac and Vascular Surgery at Kiel University Hospital. Since 2009, Thomas Ocker worked for two years as a quality management representative of the Clinic for Anesthesiology and successfully completed the course of the Medical Association. 

After successfully completing the additional qualification in intensive care medicine in 2014, Thomas Ocker worked as a senior physician in an intensive care unit at the Clinic for Anesthesiology m.s. Intensive Care Medicine at the Charité.  

Since 2018, Thomas Ocker was part of Prof. Balzer's project group for the conversion of the ICU EMR as head of the clinical group, where he subsequently took over the lead of the governance of the 18 intensive care units of the Charité. His focus was on the standardization of documentation in the intensive care medicine. 

Since November 2022, Thomas Ocker has now moved entirely to the IT division to join Prof. Balzer as deputy CMIO.
